3 x KOREAN INDIE
Taking a look at a few new releases on the Korean indie music scene, beginning
with the very attractive sound from South Korean-American singing songwriter
& artist
:: WHANG, BO RYUNG ::
& the track // Night Sky // taken from her album // Urbane Sanity // released
yesterday (October 27 ). Ideal simplicity turned up to perfection, in a collaboration
with the band // Asian Chairshot // that just works, before walking further into the
stardom feel of the likes of Manchester group "Oasis ", namely
:: THE BLACK UNDERGROUND ::
as they channel their Korean Neil Gallagher's over today's grunge filled stage with
the single // Coffee & Sandy // winging a tribute that sees a revival of the garage rock
genre. I have a soft spot for this band, but there are many others of interest, such as

and the indie pop song // Astronomy // off their upcoming album // Pale Blue
Dot // due out November 3. It's gentle, flowing with a rhythm that is very 90's
Italian euro-pop. I sense an urbane renewal going on within the K-indie scene. The
band describe their style as 'British rock '. Not sure if the distinction translates, but
it is more evident in the [ Xtra ] feature. If all this goodness leaves you wanting
more, you can work your way through a veritable feast here:
