VASHTI BUNYAN x WARPAINT

Kicking off a Throwback Thursday session with the haunting melodic voice of English
singing songwriter

:: VASHTI BUNYAN ::

You can be forgiven for not having heard of her before. After the release of her debut
album // Just Another Diamond Day // in 1970, things went South. She called it a day.
Some 30 years later, her album had achieved a cult following, leading to its re-
release in 2000, which was the encouragement she needed to return to her musical
career. I opted to share with you the track // Train Song // released in 1966. It highlights
her voice, taking you to the free-loving waters of the Sixties hippie culture saturated
with talent that drowned out her voice. Following on with the track // Elephants // from
American indie rock group

:: WARPAINT ::

off their 2010 album // The Fool //. There are shades of a young Bjork, as the monotonic
vocals pitch their siren sounds into the ether. The two tracks are linked. Vashti Bunyan's
// Train Song //  was adapted from an earlier composition called // 17 Pink Sugar Ele-
phants //. I hope they tasted better than the mice.
